Ollie Virtual Reality Animation Tool
Ollie is a simple to use virtual reality animation application for artists who lack experience with animation tools. The Ollie application was created by a team of people to give users an opportunity to break into animation without the huge learning curve of traditional programs.
The inspiration behind the Ollie application was Ollie Johnston who was one of Disney’s “Nine Old Men”. This was a core group of animators for Walt Disney Productions in the early days of the studio. Ollie was also created to be bold and different from many other tech company’s animation applications. This was one of the drivers for the choice of slightly modified primary colors in the application. Using primitive animation shapes in different applications with the primary colors allows Ollie to embrace a bold look while still feeling friendly and inviting. The Ollie shirt designs featured above take the idea of stepping stones of animation and give them dimension by using some of the first primitive shapes utilized in animation.
The thematic treatment of the Ollie application was meant to create something that stood out in a world of animation tools. The attention grabber in Ollie is that it is a VR application with a more tactile approach to creating animations. Ollie was given its own sense of style. The use of low poly models creates a toy like feel to the models encouraging users to play with the tool rather than work with it.

Using the primitive shapes in different applications with the primary colors give ollie a bold look while still feeling friendly and inviting.
The thematic treatment of the Ollie logo was to create something that stood out in a world of hard edge tech logos. The Ollie logo is a mix between the Ollie Johnston’s signature and the apple hello. This give the logo a smooth flowing feeling while still being well designed. The colors for ollie were also selected to be different for the blue on blue gradients of many other tech companies. The shirts use three different styles of primitives this is to show the evolution of the primitives of animation. The first set of flat two-dimensional shapes, then the three-dimension wire frames and finally the rendered three-dimensional shapes.
