Space Wolf Cover Redesign

The redesign of the Space Wolf book covers, focuses on giving a more modern feel to the sci-fi book series. This focused on creating bold cover that incorporate colors that apply to the subject mater of the books.
The inspiration for the Space Wolf book cover was to be the opposite of the current cover style of the books. The current book covers are highly detailed air brush paintings of the main character. The book covers were also inspired by swiss design with its bold colors and large type. The covers push the bounds of legibility by enlarging letters so much so that they are barely legible.
The thematic treatment of the book covers was to pick colors that was extremely vibrant and eye catching, while still applying to the book’s contents. The titles of the books are split in to two styles the bold sanserif that is missing the letter and the thing serif that has all its letters. This gives the titles a flow and pattern across all the books. The extremely large letters in the background push how large a letter can be while still being recognizable to the reader. There are also gloss letters replacing the blown-up letters so that the words can be read normally in the correct light.
The book cover have specific letters blown up for each cover so the main characters name can be spelled with the large letters of the book covers. This give fans of the book a secret they can figure out as they read the book and learn about the main characters.
When I did my first digital mock ups I went in three different directions for the first cover only. The first I wanted to create a cover using only lines and text to contrast from the detailed drawings that are the current covers.  The second cover explores a more symbolic look at displaying the content of the book. The final cover was just trying to explore a possible interesting effect with the cover.
The second round of digital covers I created the rest of the book sleeve to see how the designs could work together to create a cohesive sleeve. I tried to very the book covers to see if I could find different inspiration because I  was still unsatisfied with how the covers were coming out.
With this cover set I felt that I had found a design I liked using a consistent style. Using symbols from the each of the books to create a meaningful cover that used a simple bold design. Unfortunately, after looking at these cover for a while I started to not like them and went in different direction for the final.
With the last and final cover design I went 180 with the feel of the book sleeves. I picked a brighter color pallet and a text only cover design. I used scale to make the covers pop, and create a sense of aw. Eventually I would like to make the other books in the series using all the covers in order to create the name of the main character.
