Paradise Cove
Paradise Cove is a board game where players are a greedy pirate trying to gather all the treasure possible while blocking your rivals from gaining their own wealth on the high seas.
The inspiration behind Paradise Cove was the exploration and adventure that pirates might have felt while out roaming the oceans in their quest for treasure and encompassing this in a board game. In creating Paradise Cove, the production group did research by playing a variety of European board games. These are generally more strategy based and take a much longer time to complete than a standard board game found in America. The goal of each pirate in Paradise Cove is to claim as much treasure as possible while avoiding other players (pirates) trying to steal your treasure. The thematic treatment of the board and game pieces utilizes detailed art that a real pirate might have seen including maps, treasure and boats mixed with bold colors and some real-world information to create the feeling of exploration and adventure. The detailed art helps draw the player into the game and give them an accurate idea of what might have been happening to real pirates in their quest for treasure. The game separates the players from one another with strong colors and unique designs for each game piece to easily identify each other while playing. The bold colors all represent one of six pirate lords based on historical pirates. When the player picks a color or game piece the corresponding ship token has information about the historical real-world pirate on the back. With the mix of fantastic art and real-world info the player becomes fully immersed in the swashbuckling adventures of pirates on their quest for treasure.
